All abord for exploring!

Whitby Surf School SUP Safari full length feature in the Yorkshire Post 13/09/2014

Our first ever Land and Sea Adventure started high on the Cliff at Kettleness Point, one of the most dramatic spots in Yorkshire. With the advent of superbly stiff inflatable Stand Up Paddleboards and 3 piece paddles from RED Paddle Co that literally pack into a rucksack on your back, the opportunity for more exhileratting SUP Adventure is now very possible. So teaming up with Luke Hutchinson (RNLI lifeguard and lifeboat crew member), Yorkshire Post correspondent Grant McKee, photographer Rob Shaw and Valeria Misuraca SUP enthusiast and friend of the Surf School we braved the narrow cliff path and near vertical decent by rope at the bottom to get to Kettleness Beach. From here under clear sky's and a very mild swell we set a course towards Port Mulgrave. Taking in the sites of Runswick Bay and its pristine cottages clinging to the cliff, dive-bombing gannets, seals and even stopping to pull up some of the family lobster pots that yielded lobsters for lunch! At Port Mulgrave a cold beer and superb Lobster Lunch was waiting set to the backdrop of a ramshackle fishermans hut. After lunch there was fossilising to be had in the Jurrasic shales and then homeward bound. A super fun time was had by all! Many thanks to Grant McKee for agreeing to report on such a project and the Hutchinson family who's generosity and love of this part of the coast is an inspiration!
